Above is a tyre as part of a vehicle, it was a optional task to complete for the modelling unit. To make it I started 2 pipes, I gave one the thickness of 1 and it made the inside of the rim. I made the second cone a lot bigger, reduced its thickness and extruded every other inside face, I then grabbed all the outside vertices and brought them slightly inwards so they touched the inside pipe.
To make the tyre I again make a cone, and made 3 edge loops going around the cone, I then moved each side of the cone down slightly, I then selected the inner faces of the outer part of the cone, I then went to extrude the faces but first I turned off “keep faces together”, i then separated the faces and extruded again, i the brought them slightly up. On each of the three edge loops i selected all the vertices and moved them or or down to give the the tread look on the tyre. I then put edge loops on the side of the tyre, and pushed them all a bit to make it curved. On the very inside corner of the tyre i selected all the vertices and brought closer together so it looks like they connect to the rim. I then applied a metal texture to the rim and coloured the tyre black.
I think this turned into a successful model, the tire tracks look realistic and turned out well. However the metal texture on the wheel could have turned out better, some parts of it had a dodgy texture. To improve this next time I could have UV’d the model so that all the sides of the shape looked smooth and consistent.
